The Textile Industry of Kashan: A Key Sector in Iran’s Textile Landscape

The textile industry of Kashan is one of the most important and largest centers of this industry in Iran. The era of prosperity and flourishing of Iran’s textile industry began after the stagnation caused by the Mongol and Timurid invasions and reached its peak with the rise of the Safavid dynasty. During the Safavid period, due to the support extended to Iranian weavers, cities such as Yazd, Isfahan, Kashan, Rasht, Mashhad, Qom, and Tabriz became the cradles of this industry.

The Textile Industry of Kashan

The textile industry of Kashan flourished significantly through the efforts and continued work of Arbab Tafazzoli, the father of modern Iranian textile manufacturing. Mr. Tafazzoli’s vision was centered around the training of skilled labor and fostering creativity and modern craftsmanship. His awareness and efforts led to the creation of better living conditions for workers in the textile sector, driven by hope. In 1934, 81 years ago, he founded the Kashan Spinning and Weaving Company with public investment. Through this company, some of the finest cotton fabrics, emblematic of Iranian craftsmanship, were woven. By establishing factories, he brought about a new intellectual transformation aimed at creating wealth and improving working conditions for the textile industry in Kashan. It is certain that the Kashan community owes a great debt to the invaluable services of the late Arbab Tafazzoli, particularly in the field of the textile industry.

The innovations, technology, and creativity seen in Kashan’s textile industry today are undoubtedly the fruits of this great entrepreneur and exemplary industrialist. Currently, over a thousand production units are active in Kashan. To solidify this position within Iran’s textile industry, it is essential to continuously consult with experts, intellectuals, and practitioners in the textile sector. Today, Kashan is recognized as a global center of traditional textiles, with the history of some of its fabrics dating back to pre-Christian times. This rich heritage has contributed to the presence of traditional textile manufacturing in virtually every branch of the industry in Kashan today.

Challenges Facing the Textile Industry of Kashan

In order to sustain and guarantee continued production, Kashan’s textile industry must be covered by insurance. Textile machinery is highly expensive, and sometimes a machine costing between 10 to 15 billion Iranian rials, which is in operation, stops working due to a malfunction in a spinning or weaving component. In such cases, the importance of insurance becomes evident. A workshop or factory that faces such difficulties can easily resume production with the support provided by insurance. The continuity and stability of production depend on the synergy of all sectors within the textile industry, and insurance plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of Kashan’s textile sector.صنعت نساجی کاشان

Moreover, the textile industry in this province has been officially registered within the government’s regulatory framework, with the support of dedicated and skilled individuals. This has greatly assisted in the protection of this industrial sector. On the other hand, there is a need to reform restrictive and anti-production laws to facilitate investment and secure the safety of capital. Many of Kashan’s textile manufacturing units are outdated and worn out, and simply upgrading to second-hand machinery is insufficient to solve this problem. With proper planning and the infusion of financial support, the industry must focus on acquiring advanced and modern systems. Another major issue facing the industry is the smuggling of goods and the failure to modernize the sector, a problem that needs to be addressed urgently.
